Oceanographer

Oceanographers study oceans! Their work helps us better understand the life within the oceans, changes occurring as carbon in Earth’s atmosphere heats its water and land, and the chemicals and physical processes at work in these great bodies of water. Physical Oceanographer Emmanuel Boss uses the movement of light and sound within water to explore the oceans and their contents. Biological Oceanographer Karen Stamieszkin focuses her work on communities of plankton – tiny sea creatures. They both spend a lot of time measuring the contents of the water to find out just who and what exists in different areas of the ocean.
