Biosystems Engineer

Biosystems engineers combine their understanding of biology and engineering to improve agriculture, ecosystems, and energy production. Biosystems Engineer Mahlet Garedew and her colleagues develop ways of using waste products like CO2 (carbon dioxide) to produce liquid fuel. Garedew, a green chemist, looks at the whole system of fuel production, investigating and measuring how much energy it requires and how much carbon dioxide it releases. She also investigates any other types of greenhouse gas that fuel *prevents* from going into Earth’s atmosphere.
